Companion Animal Hospital located in Oak Park, IL is seeking an experienced full-time Associate Veterinarian to join our growing team!

 

At Companion Animal Hospital in Oak Park, our veterinarians and staff share a common goal: to devote as much time and energy as possible to the care of pets in Oak Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park, Galewood, and surrounding areas throughout Chicago, IL.

 

Our hospital is a full-service small animal general practice specializing in dogs and cats. We are open six days a week to provide a complete spectrum of veterinary services such as teeth cleaning, wellness exams, dermatology, surgery, cat boarding, dog grooming, and more!

 

Companion Animal Hospital in Oak Park is also proud to serve Oak Park and surrounding neighborhoods with gentle, compassionate care. Several of our staff members are Fear Free Certified and offer our patients a low-stress experience during their visit. Additionally, our team is honored and proud to dedicate our time to helping those in need. By supporting our community animal shelters, we help not only care for animal rescues and shelter animals’ immediate health needs but prepare them for future loving homes. Consequently, we’ve partnered with eight local nonprofit organizations, and hope to grow the list with more partners soon!

Requirements:

  • Licensed Illinois Veterinarian (active and clear)
  • At least two years of experience

Responsibilities / Qualifications

How you'll make an impact: 

 

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP. 
  • Diagnose, perform surgery, and treat patients.  
  • Maintain excellent client communication.  
  • Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms, and accurate information.  
  • Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.  
  • Call clients for follow up and to discuss results.  
  • Set standards of care/protocols for medical and surgical areas. 
  • Maintain practice growth and review financial reports.  
  • Communicate clearly and accurately through written and verbal interactions.  
  • Work in collaboration with practice manager for administrative management.  
  • Deal with clients in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism. 
  • Mentor team members in the training program for career advancement and personal development towards goals. 
  • Provide feedback and changes to the training program. 
  • Provide guidance to the support staff to assure that the shift flows well. 
  • Provide input to the hospital manager for 360-degree employee performance evaluations. 

Qualifications

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead and establish a vision for the practice team. 
  • Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment.  
  • Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills. 
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. 
  • Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections. 
  • Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients. 
  • Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients. 
  • Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia. 
  • The employee must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently. 
  • To perform this job successfully it will be necessary to become proficient in the use of the practice management software.
